Concert of the "Harvard Krokodiloes 2023" in the cloister of Sayn Abbey
We are pleased to announce that on July 30 an open air concert of the Harvard Krokodiloes will take place in the cloister of Sayn Abbey. As it has done for 36 years, the famous à-capella choir of Harvard University wants to thrill its many hundreds of fans from the region at the Kulturpark Sayn on the last weekend in July.
Every year the choir "rejuvenates" by 3 or 4 new singers, while the same number of graduates leave the group. In the same way, the repertoire of songs and arrangements is adapted year after year to the taste of the enthusiastic audience, an audience that already included Ella Fitzgerald, Leonard Bernstein or Bill Clinton, to whose inauguration the Kroks were invited.
"The Harvard Krokodiloes of 2023" are on their annual tour around the globe. There are performances in major concert halls, festivals or U.S. embassies of a variety of famous cities such as Tokyo, Bangkok, Singapore and Sidney, as Johannesburg, Rome and Venice, or Paris, Bolgheri - and Sayn, before moving on to Monte Carlo, London and Sao Paulo.
Their specialties consist of the songs of the "Roaring 20s & 30s" as well as familiar ballads or hits from Swing to Rock'n Roll. Here in Sayn, the "Kroks" will again enjoy a long weekend of fun and family bonding with the Princely Family of Sayn-Wittgenstein.
The 800 year old, partially roofed cloister of the Sayn Abbey with its good acoustics is perfectly suited for this performance on Sunday afternoon, regardless of the weather. Organizer of the musical delicacy in the special Ambiente of the colorfully painted cloister is the promotion circle abbey Sayn, to which also in this year again the net proceeds flow exclusively. In recent years, the "Kroks" had already "ersungen" a total of well over 100,000 euros for the preservation and restoration of sacred buildings and art in Sayn.
On Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 6:00 p.m., the Catholic parish will celebrate Holy Mass in the neighboring Romanesque abbey church, to which quite traditionally the Krokodiloes also want to contribute some sacred songs.
The concert in the cloister of Sayn Abbey begins on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at 16:00. Advance concert tickets (adults 18.00 euros, children 12.00 euros) are available through the New Museum Sayn Castle (Tel. 02622-902424). Further tickets are available at the box office at the cloister (adults 20,00 Euro, children 14,00 Euro).
Förderkreis Abbey Sayn e.V.
-psi- Quickly the foot bobbed along, quickly one snapped with the finger. Enthusiastic mood at the performance of the twelve singing gentlemen, almost annually a highlight in Sayn. The "Harvard Krokodiloes" sang on their 38th visit on their world tour around the globe again in Sayn, because Alexander Prince of Sayn had once again so "threaded". Together with sponsors, the accommodation of the students for a weekend including meals is organized, in return the "Kroks" sing in the cloister and the proceeds can be used completely for the restoration of the abbey church. Over the years, a multi-digit amount has been collected. Sayn has every right to be proud of this. District Administrator Dr. Alexander Saftig, Chairman of the Friends of Sayn Abbey, thanked organizers, sponsors, the guests and of course the elite choir. But it is much more the musical enjoyment of the troupe, which always seeks its equal. No instrument is missed here when the oldest university A-chapel troupe, founded in 1946, begins to sing. Then it becomes "muchs-mäuschen-still" in the cloister, then singing, Slapstick, in addition, consternation, emotion and cheerfulness with so some jokes take the area in the reverential surfaces of the cloister. The prince urged Pastor Klupsch to consider rebuilding the remaining cloister wings to accommodate even more than this year's record number of over 250 tickets sold. And there are musical numbers that simply belong to a performance of the Harvard Krokodiloes, for example "The house of blue light". "Love Potion Number nine" or "Loch Lomond." All of the Kroks are inspiring on their own and as a group, and they like to take the mickey out of themselves with their performances or wow the audience with a brave tap number on the cloister stage. Another unforgettable afternoon.
