Projects from 2023 to 2026

Projects in 2023

The restoration work in the cloister, which began in 2022 following water damage, was completed with financial support from the Friends of the Church.

In addition, the statues of saints (Peter and Paul) from the Baroque altar—which now stand in the crossing—were restored by Karen Keller, Cologne. The Friends of the Church covered the entire cost, except for the portion paid by the Diocese of Trier’s historic preservation office.

A commemorative plaque for Father Madauß in the cloister was created by Pelikan, and the costs were covered by the Friends of the Church.

Measures for 2024

Some of the halogen floodlights used for outdoor lighting were defective and had to be replaced.

The parish purchased the cushions for the kneelers; the Friends of the Church also contributed to the costs.

The restoration of the Stations of the Cross panels—acquired in 2017 and modeled after the original panels by Samuel and Fritz Weigelt from the Sayner Hütte—was completed, and a copy of each panel was produced. The costs were paid by the Friends Association to Pelikan. The panels have yet to be installed.

Start of the Refurbishment of the Sebastianus Chapel

Thanks to funds raised from the Harvard Krokodiloes concerts and a donation from Sparkasse Koblenz, the historic Lindholm harmonium in the castle chapel has been restored. This ensures that the harmonium and worship services in the castle chapel can continue.

The Friends' Association's involvement in organizing the organ concerts and the concerts by Musici di Sayn since 2024 should be viewed as the association's contribution to the preservation of culture at Sayn Abbey.

Measures for 2025

The Stations of the Cross panels, which were restored in 2024, were installed by the “Donnerstagsmänner” in the abbey’s cloister and in the castle park—or built into the stelae—after being individually customized to fit perfectly by the Pelikan company.

Similarly, the severely damaged windows of the sacristy were restored by the Keller company in Höhr-Grenzhausen, with the Friends of the Church covering a portion of the costs.

The abbey’s flag display has been expanded and updated.

The digital access to the abbey church has also been upgraded with new, more modern technology.

The furnishing of St. Sebastian’s Chapel was completed with financial support from the Friends of the Abbey.

The lighting for the staircase leading to the treasure chamber was installed as part of a project coordinated with the historic preservation authorities and LBB. The Förderkreis covered the cost of the electrical work.

Measures for 2026

The design of the pulpit window in the narthex has been discussed and approved; implementation could take place as early as 2026 or, if necessary, in early 2027. The Friends of the Church Association has pledged a fixed amount of €10,000.

Additional statues of saints have been restored; their placement in the church and the treasury has not yet been decided and depends on the overall layout of the church interior. The parish’s input on this matter is awaited first.

As it does every year, the Friends of the Abbey funded the floral decorations around the abbey, which were arranged by the “Thursday Men.”

The printing of flyers, brochures, posters, etc., for the individual events was also once again part of the tasks and expenses incurred over the course of the year.
